Breath and Basics
Welcome to the Kindred Yoga Breath and Basics introductory class to yoga foundations.
Here you will walk through the complete yogic breath and learn how to control the breath to improve the effectiveness of the postures. Take the breath class before you begin every posture practice. In the beginning, your focus is entirely on the breath moving through your body. So your position does not matter. You can sit on the floor, in a chair, or even lying down as long as you can focus. This is the same breath practice I learned in my first yoga class and it changed everything.
When the breath begins to flow easily and comfortably, you will move onto the process of moving into and out of the postures. Although these postures look very simple, there are nuanced things to keep your focus. After practicing these details, they will become apart of your movement and help keep your mind and body still while you breathe into the postures. As my teacher taught me, “you will find comfort in the discomfort”.
Yoga must be practiced just like any other sport or personal discipline. Time and consistency are the only things necessary to make progress. Practice will push your comfort zone. Yoga seems simple and boring when watching from the outside, but the inner work and discipline is challenging. Yoga is not something that requires flexibility, because that is a side effect of consistent practice. Kindred Yoga breath and basics steps you into those yoga foundations. Track your progress with Yoga Notes, the posture and meditation companion journal.
